Was I the only one watching the Super Bowl this weekend? Just like the rest of you the only reason we watch the game is for the commercials, which were lack luster, and the half time show. I mean you have to at least watch the first half of the game so you can tell all those people at work that you did watch some of the game at least.
There was one thing during the halftime show with Madonna that everyone seems to be talking about. Who in the world was that guy jumping around on that rope? That my friend is something made famous by Gibbons , and is called Slacklining.
If you have never heard of slacklining you can read more in our article about the sport of Gibbons slacklining . It is a true sport for all you doubters out there. It takes an amazing amount of balance and athleticism to be able to balance, walk, and jump on a slackline.
As anyone could see during the Super Bowl half time, a guy and pro slack liner named Andy Lewis or "Sketchy Andy" was bouncing around like crazy on a line. Slacklines are made of a more elastic material and are usually strung between two solid objects. Most people start out just trying to stand and walk on a slackline.
It take a lot of practice, I can tell you from experience, that it takes awhile before a person can even walk ten steps on a slackline. According to this interview by Outside Online, Andy Lewis picked up a slackline and started using it as a hobby. Andy Lewis has done such things as win the World Cup, yes slacklining has full on competitions, in 2011.
Gibbons slacklines has a US Pro Team, of which Andy is a member, these travel the country and compete and take slacklining to a new level. If you have never had a chance to get on a Gibbons Slackline then you are missing out on one of the most fun and awesome outdoor activities ever. I hope that the half time show if this Super Bowl has inspired people and shown people what is possible with slacklining.
