If you have ever watched a episode of The Office you will know when Dwight Schrute gets onto something, he is on it and focused. This is the first lesson applied to outdoor adventures.
It doesn't matter if you are backpacking in the sticks or climbing a 14er, being single minded and focused on the task at hand is of up most importance.
If you are thinking about failure or that project at work, chances are you are going to mess up, with unknown consequences. Focusing on your goal and task ahead of you will keep mistakes from happening and give you the greatest chance of success.
Take a lesson from Dwight here, be single minded and focused on our outdoor adventure and things are bound to go better then if you are dreaming about watching the next episode of The Office.
2. Never Give Up
What is one thing that Dwight Schrute will never do? It is giving up. It doesn't matter what it takes or to what lengths he has to go, Dwight is willing to stick it out until the bitter end.
This is the second lesson from Dwight applied to outdoor adventures. If Dwight is not a baby, then neither should you. You must have confidence in your abilities and that you can accomplish what you set out to do.
Watch a episode of the Office and tell me if you think Dwight gives up something just because of a little trouble. You should be willing to put up with a little push back when it comes to mother nature. When is the last time you have been on a backpacking or climbing trip and everything went as planned? That's what I thought.
3. Be Suspicious
The third and final lesson from Dwight is of course, always be suspicious. If there is one thing I've learned from a million different outdoor adventures, it's that being suspicious can save you a lot of trouble.
Being suspicious of the weather, your surroundings, and your gear will always save you untold trouble. Being at the mercy of mother nature and conditions of the land you trod on can put you in a tight spot in a pinch.
Always being on the lookout for trouble or changes in situations is a good habit to get into. Take a lesson from Dwight here, be ultra suspicious when it comes to your outdoor adventures and save yourself the hassle of things going wrong at the wrong time.
