TransAtlantic Adventure with Alastair Humphreys

by Daniel Beach

Do you like large open bodies of water, big waves, storms? Well, I would take a rain check, but the professional adventurers on the TransAtlantic Slovenian-British Ocean Rowing Expedition must not mind it so much.

If you have not heard already, this ocean rowing expedition is made up of 4 professional adventurers, including Alastair Humphreys (who we interviewed here), Marin Medak, Simon Osborne, and Stephen Bowens. These brave souls plan to row their way 2500 nautical miles from the Canary Islands to Barbados, quite a long Atlantic ocean expedition.

These four adventurers have impressive sea-faring resumes and should be up to the challenge, you can ready about them here.

According to the expedition website they will not be taking any water for the trip, but will be using a watermaker (Schenken) that is capable of producing 30 liters of good water using seawater, all in one hour.

The boat they are using, the Tusmobil apparently has been used for other Atlantic adventures in the past, at almost 2 meters wide and 9 meters long, seems like kind of a small vestle. Apparently it has room for two cabins to house the adventurers.

One nice thing about this expedition is the face that you will be able to see the position of the boat on a map, here. Most likely this expedition will spend around 2 months rowing on the Atlantic Ocean!

It should be interesting to see how the expedition progresses and Alastair Humphreys is planning on trying to update everyone as often as possible. Row row row your boat!
