Safari Adventures..Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears.. Oh my. I've been hiking in the wilderness with my backpack on thinking about bears, it can be quite unnerving. The thought of walking through the bush wondering when a tiger will pounce from behind gives me the cold sweats too. I will probably have dreams of "Ghost In The Darkness" tonight. If you haven't seen it, don't if your planning a safari anytime soon. As I was whistling in my car coming from a day in the cubicle, NPR on the radio, I heard a tidbit about safari adventures. It seems these exotic endeavors that were once for old rich men to shoot some nice animal for the wall has become more main stream of late. Safari adventures coupled with Eco-Tourism, even during this so called down-turn, have been on the rise, and seem to be within reach of the average person also.

What is a safari? Normally a safari is an African overland tour in which you would try to encounter beautiful wildlife and scenic adventures. In the past a safari had to do with a big game hunt, but that seems to be on the decline and the African wildlife and scenic tour is on the rise. What are the best African locations for a Safari? You would be surprised, some of the names you will see are sanomoyous with civil war and refugees in our minds. But, never fear, you can rest assured that most all safaris take place on wildlife preserves of course, and these wilderness areas are usually far off from the few populated and "trouble" areas you might say. So, on too locations...

1. Tanzania
2. Kenya
3. Botswana
4. South Africa
5. Zambia
6. Zimbabwae
7. Nambia
8. Zambia
9. Uganda
10. Rwanda
11. Malawi..

What could you expect to see while in the wilds of Africa? Well, we've all watched TV enough to know that we could expect to see elephants, lions, hippos, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and the list goes on. Getting up close and personal to all those animals in their natural environment is what makes an African safari different then the zoo down the road. If it's riding around in a jeep, walking through the bush, or even sleeping out in the bush, you are sure to experience nature and wildlife in a way that just cannot be done where you are right now.

You can find many wildlife preserves and safari business that have been doing it for a very long time, and this is good for those people who may be nervous about the whole adventure. The transportation, lodging, meals, and experience is had by thousands others every year. These places are very good at what they do, and you will be in good hands.

Probably one of the greatest draws to African safaris is the idea of an adventure in one of the last great untouched wilderness areas in the world. You probably know someone who has climbed a mountain and we always here about K2 and Everest, but when is the last time you heard someone talk about riding a jeep through African bush? I don't think a life of adventure would be complete without seeing some of these great wildlife preserves, and untouched land.
