1. Why do you think having some adventure in life is important?
We are so busy these days. We spend all day indoors. We are rarely hot or cold or thirsty or hungry. We don't stare and watch the moon set or the sunrise. So adventure is a good way of rebooting the soul.
2. Do you have a favorite adventure or outdoor activity? What do you like about it?
River swims. They are a metaphor for big endeavours! (Terrifying in contemplation, difficult to begin, not too bad once you get in, wonderful in retrospect)
3. How do you keep yourself going when the going gets tough?
By reminding myself that if I give in I will regret it one day. And that the memories make the brief misery worthwhile.
And by having a large sense of the absurd!
4. Is their a piece of gear that you can’t live without?
Thermarest
5. What’s your next big adventure?
Rowing the Atlantic - I begin in January.
So, there you have it, a look inside the mind of a great adventurer. What do you think? Do you have it in you? Alastair has a number of books out, many of which you can find on Amazon.com
, head over to check some of them out.
