Who is Peter Lik and what does he do? I wrote about Peter Lik and his Weather Channel TV show here, if you want to know the basics. Peter Lik is a very well known and great scenic outdoor photographer, some of his work is arguably the best outdoor photography out there. If your used to looking through magazines like Outside or maybe National Geographic, which have amazing shots, Peter Lik’s work will put them all to shame. If you want to check out some of his work, look at his web site here, this will give you a good idea of the type of work he does. So, after I first wrote about Peter Lik I had some questions about what kind of photography gear and camera he uses to do his work, and I noticed some others had the same question, so I decided to look into it a little further, and this is what I found.

Medium-format Linhof 6x17 camera. After searching around Peter’s web site and looking at photo’s and video of his camera it appears this piece of equipment is part of what makes his photos so beyond the average.

The first thing you will notice about this wondrous work of some mad scientist is the price tag, these things are not cheap! It makes sense that the best photographers in the world would use the best equipment, and I guess these outdoor wonders that you see Peter Lik produce are no exception. It appears the basic idea behind these Linhof camera’s is the panoramic ability it has.

The technology behind these panoramic cameras is absolutely out of my leage, only a seasoned professional is going to understand all the In's and outs of these little pieces of marvel.
